In 2011, Stanford University students Evan Spiegel, Bobby Murphy and Reggie Brown created a new way to send photos and videos with Snapchat. Snapchat's rise to one of the most influential social media platforms is evident when you look at the growth of Snapchat stats, users, and other really strange statistics. Brown first pitched the Snapchat idea to Spiegel, who had business experience, and Murphy, who had programming experience. The result was a startup that suddenly grew in a similar way to Facebook, with regards to ownership and the mountains of money the company might be worth.

Instead, he was settled with $157.5 million and was credited as one of the original founders of Snapchat. When Snapchat first launched in July 2011, it was initially given the more pleasant name of Picaboo . However, in September the social media platform, with the merit of having presented the world with ephemeral (disappearing) content, was renamed Snapchat. At first, Snapchat users could only send and receive photo and video messages of up to 10 seconds, after which they disappeared.
In October 2013, Snapchat introduced Stories (which Facebook , Instagram , and many other social networks eventually embraced and integrated into their respective platforms), which remained available for 24 hours. Unlike the standard messaging feature, any user who follows a person can view the Snapchat Story (assuming it's shared in public). However, perhaps Snapchat's greatest success, beyond its original concept, were its filters. These filters introduced augmented reality objects into images, allowing Snapchat users to show off mustaches or top hats (or all sorts of bizarre and funny reality adaptations).
